April Fool-ery

2 weeks ago:  Uncle John explains April Fools Day to Lucy.
She rushes in.  Mama!  On April Fools' Day I'm gong to say "I have crayons in my hand!"  But. I. Won't.   Total triumph!

March 31:  We both think it's April 1st.  (Well, she did, and it was early, so I was easily mislead.)
Mamaaaa, I have crayons in my hand!  Eyes wide, leaning forward, practically on tip-toe.  Split second later:  Happy Fool's Day!

Many little jokes like this later (Mama, I have pencils in my hand... Mama, I have eyeballs in my hand...) and I decided that it was my turn.  I knew better than to say something fun that she'd actually believe and get excited about, so I said, "Lucy, we're getting a pet...giraffe," immediately following one of her jokes.  Her eyes got shiny and she started to cheer--yikes!  "April Fool's!" I called out, and her face fell.  "Lucy, I was joking, we can't have a giraffe in the house."  Thunderclouds.  We COULD.

Today: the jokes abounded
First, in a bizarre twist on her "crayons in my hand" joke, she announced, full hands behind her back, Mama, I have a necklace in my hands!  (Which she did.)  She dropped it behind her back and yelled, Happy Fools day!

She announced to Nana that she was out of equal for her tea (which would be horrifying to Nana!).
She announced to John that there were a ton of hippos outside!  (To which he quipped, "So two of 'em?")
When John told her to look at the big deer outside of the car window, she was resolute, refusing to even flick a gaze in that direction.  No, Uncle John, she said firmly, You're just April Fools-ing me, I know you are.

She announced to me that I had snakes around my neck, that there were bears in the road, etc.

The last one of tonight was particularly funny (if a little macabre).  She shoved her hands behind her back in the car. Mama, where are my hands?  I could tell she was thinking this one up on the fly.  They're in... the woods.  Insert forlorn look.  They... broke off.     April Fool's!

Happy Easter

AND a fun Easter craft with Aunt Rachel:

Adoring look... Aunt Rachel is so fun!

I think they did well!  They were so cute!

on boyfriends

You were busily getting ready for the day (and I was, too).  You announced, "Well, I broke up with my pretend boyfriend."

"Why?" I asked.

You said exactly these words (with a little bit of a Sorry Charlie attitude):  "To my knowledge, he doesn't even read his Bible."

You're so funny!

working with mama

I brought home some work the other day.  I was making these little activity folders by taping the cover onto an orange folder and putting the (laminated, and yes, I'm excited about that!) pieces into the folder.

Lucy got busily to work, and ... tadaa!  She made an activity folder, too.  She had clear plans as to how her students would use it (and it specifically stated that the girls were in charge because the boys didn't play as nice).  She put pictures of her and me.  She'd say, "Do these look like feet?"  I think we look pretty cute!

lately

Lucy, you keep me on my toes!

A warmish day--you made the most of it and played on the deck.
I love the flowers--nice touch!

This makes me so happy always---the holding hands!

Melt my heart...
I love this girl!
Lately, you've cracked me up by whispering to yourself, "Lucy, be brave."  You do this when facing such fearsome prospects as cold lotion on your back or a tight neck-opening being pulled over your head.

I realized the other night that your night-time routine consists of:
a dab of lavender behind your ears so you'll sleep well (from Uncle John)
having your feet powdered (by Pap)
a full-body rub down with good lotion (by Mama)
You've got it pretty good, girl!

You have been trying to say "a tad" (like a tad more butter), but you say "a tat" (a tat more butter, please)  It sounds so fun.

You told me that if you were my mom, you'd name me Abraham Lincoln.  Why?  "Because you both love to read."  :)

Lucy says

I get dressed to go out to dinner.  L:  "You look... casual."  (like she's trying for a compliment, but that's all she's got).

She says most things so well and usually sounds much older than she is.  So I cherish hearing "Care-loren" (Carolyn), Valenstine Day, and Eleflant.

"Guys, we need to re-think this!"

I also hear on a regular basis, in a resigned little voice, "Well, that's awkward."

Winter Happenings

Lucy added candy to my grocery list and then put it in a special box and decorated each one with a sticker and has shared them with everyone.  Sweet girl.

She met Elsa and Ana!  Thanks Bon Bon!

Started playing with Barbies a bit...

The sweetest lunch date ever--we love Beans!
First snowfall (enough to play in)

The invitation to "Ducky's Birthday Party"
(At which 5 adults sang Happy Birthday to Ducky :)
What are you doing?  "Craftin' it up!"
