working with mama
I brought home some work the other day. I was making these little activity folders by taping the cover onto an orange folder and putting the (laminated, and yes, I'm excited about that!) pieces into the folder.
Lucy got busily to work, and ... tadaa! She made an activity folder, too. She had clear plans as to how her students would use it (and it specifically stated that the girls were in charge because the boys didn't play as nice). She put pictures of her and me. She'd say, "Do these look like feet?" I think we look pretty cute!

lately
Lucy, you keep me on my toes!
Lately, you've cracked me up by whispering to yourself, "Lucy, be brave." You do this when facing such fearsome prospects as cold lotion on your back or a tight neck-opening being pulled over your head.
I realized the other night that your night-time routine consists of:
a dab of lavender behind your ears so you'll sleep well (from Uncle John)
having your feet powdered (by Pap)
a full-body rub down with good lotion (by Mama)
You've got it pretty good, girl!
You have been trying to say "a tad" (like a tad more butter), but you say "a tat" (a tat more butter, please) It sounds so fun.
You told me that if you were my mom, you'd name me Abraham Lincoln. Why? "Because you both love to read." :)

Lucy says
I get dressed to go out to dinner. L: "You look... casual." (like she's trying for a compliment, but that's all she's got).
She says most things so well and usually sounds much older than she is. So I cherish hearing "Care-loren" (Carolyn), Valenstine Day, and Eleflant.
"Guys, we need to re-think this!"
I also hear on a regular basis, in a resigned little voice, "Well, that's awkward."

this Christmas
I simply love that this Christmas, you got to choose who opened presents first and you didn't pick yourself.
I love that when it was your turn, you wanted everyone to open the gifts you'd given them first--you anticipated giving more than getting.
I love that we visited a nursing home and you "weren't shy" in handing out cards.
I love that you wanted to write "God loves you" inside of them.
I love that you sang so loudly in your microphone.
I love that you shimmied in your sparkly dress.
I love that you sat in my lap and we binge-read new books.
I love that you laughed out loud.
I love you, LJTN. You are a precious gift from God!
